Slow progress is still progress

Our lambing season was late this year, with the last set of twins arriving in mid-May. For three weeks, we were up at all hours of the day and night—checking on soon-to-be moms and new lambs, pacing and waiting for signs of labor. It was a beautiful and challenging time, with little sleep. This year we had a mix of twins and triplets and exactly 50% ewe and ram lambs. There were some complicated labors where I needed to assist, but many of our new moms did great and are now tending to their lambs with care.

Here we are in mid-June and the lambs and pasture are both growing fast. It is not as dry as I thought it would be, which is a relief. Dean and I have caught back up on sleep and the bright, early sunrises make it easier to get out of bed. I am excited about our creamery improvements and being back into sheep dairying routines after a few seasons off. Slow progress is the phrase I lean on these days. We are getting there and making changes along the way that feel true to our vision for Harmony Fields.

I will be sending out our newsletter later this month with more updates, so be sure to be on that list (link at footer of website). It only goes out quarterly. Milk flowing, cheese eventually. I will post more photos and updates on our creamery progress as the summer goes on.

Stay cool and thanks for staying with us, friends!
