Harmony Fields – situated in the Skagit Valley of Washington State, between Seattle, WA and Vancouver B.C. – makes artisan, farmstead sheep cheese and grows WSDA certified 100% organic herbs. Our mission is to produce nutritious, high-quality food and medicine using organic and ecological farming techniques. We also offer educational opportunities that foster creativity, kindness, and place-based living.

The Farmers

Harmony Fields is owned and operated by Jessica Gigot, Ph.D. and Dean Luce. Together they have two girls (June Helen and Eloise Loran), a McNab sheep dog (Tulsi), and an eccentric cat (Lars).

Jessica fell in love with the Skagit Valley over fifteen years ago and never left. She has an academic background in horticulture, health, and creative writing and appreciates the confluence of artists and farmers in this valley.

Dean is a carpenter and graphic designer by trade, but also a self-made luthier and musician. He is the resident builder, fixer, maker, and bird watcher.

Together Jess and Dean are The Dovetails and they perform their old-time & blue grass music around town.

The Animals

Our sheep, donkeys, and ducks are raised with love. While these are working animals, they are also part of our family and we value the joy and comfort they bring to the farm.

Sheep

We have a flock of East Friesian/Lacaune sheep that we initially acquired from a retiring cheesemaker in eastern Washington. They are primarily a milk breed, but also offer excellent wool and meat. We graze them on certified 100% organic pasture and supplement their feed with local, non-GMO grains. We are members of the Dairy Sheep Association of North America and the Island Grown Farmers Cooperative.

Miniature Donkeys

We adopted these two miniature donkey siblings (July & Aubrey) in 2011 and since that time they have become the heart of the farm. Together they watch over everyone and keep away predators, like coyotes and eagles. They are also just adorable and caring creatures and we are lucky to have them!

Ducks

Our Khaki Campbell ducks are excellent layers and enjoy the damp, northwest winters. Outside of the growing season they are allowed to wander and graze on the farm. Their nutritious eggs are available seasonally at our farm stand or local farmer’s market.

The Plants

We grow a mixture of culinary and medicinal herbs that are available fresh and dried. All of our produce is WSDA certified 100% organic and we are members of the Organic Farmers Association and Tilth Alliance. We strive to maintain vibrant plants and resilient, healthy soils. We also value the native flora of our region and maintain many “wild” areas on the farm that include plants like nettles and salmonberry.
