SUMMARY:Self Portraits and Persona: Writing About the Self
DESCRIPTION:Before the selfie stick and the youtube channel\, there was portraiture. In 1941\, Salvador Dali’s\, “Self Portrait with Fried Bacon” offered the self portrait as an instrument of humor and self mockery while during the Victorian era\, death portraits were the rage (posing with a deceased child\, spouse\, or sibling). Since the Renaissance (and before) self portraits have been a popular art form and more recently the self portrait form has been hijacked by poets. Join us for an afternoon of reading and writing poetry of the self in all its ever changing outfits. You will leave with at least five techniques to write poetry as well as five new drafts. Open and perfect for new poets as well as experienced ones. Local lunch provided.
